With this past weekend resembling a balmy Spring day, it’s hard to remember the cold covered winter days just a few weeks ago. The week before our planned shoot, the weather was pretty similar, actually. 5 degrees, the snow was melting. We were preparing to pack our rubber boots and umbrellas because we had a true Canadian warm spell in the middle of winter.
But the night before the shoot it dropped to zero and the flurries began to fall. And they never stopped. On Sunday morning we were scrambling to change our plans and find appropriate outfits. I stopped at Home Sense and Good Will for some wintery props; a warm blanket, some cute scarves, hot chocolate mugs, knitted mittens and wool hats.
We risked getting stuck on the unplowed roads to pull up to the Brant Tract in Paisley, Ontario. We trucked all of our props through a couple feet of snow and into a little hut where we set up shop. The snow didn’t slow down, but it made for a ridiculously dreamy photo shoot.
Parents, Kyle + Flo were concerned that the kids would get cold and grumpy fairly fast so we started the session with the kids. Not surprisingly, they were champs. They struck poses like I’ve never seen. See proof:
The kids and I met Kyle + Flo back under the hut, away from the flurries for a moment where we decided it be best to do the family photos first so the kids could cuddle under the blankets for the rest of the session. That’s when Samarah piped up and exclaimed it’s Mom + Dad’s turn and they should kiss on the lips. My heart melted in half.
So, Kyle, Flo and I wandered into the woods where Kyle romantically swooped Flo into his warm arms for a couple adorable shots.
It wasn’t long before we hurried back to get the hot chocolate and the kids for a winter family picnic. But before we did, I pulled the kids aside to use the wooden hut as a backdrop while my heart finished melting into a pile of love.
I started with some single shots of the Bubba himself when Samarah joined us. I told them to just be cute and that’s when Samarah grabbed Landon and snuggled up to his cheek. Landon grabbed Samarah’s hand and gave it a gentleman’s kiss. Samarah couldn’t just stand there and take in all of Landon’s romancing, she had to top it off by kissing his forehead.
I seriously can’t get enough of these two. As we walked back into the hut I said, “could you two get any cuter!” and then asked “what’s going to happen when there’s three of you.” Without hesitation Landon replied, “I don’t know, I guess we’ll get even cuter.” That’s it, I’m dead. There’s no more of my heart left to melt.
I somehow managed to put my melted heart back together and off we went to set up the winter picnic. Although the kids were getting cold and sour, the hot chocolate held them off for a few more, adorably snowy photos.
And just when we thought we called it a day, Landon and Samarah walked back to the car hand in hand. I can’t get enough of this family. <3
But turns out I'll be seeing and capturing lots more of this family because they had a big surprise to tell.
That's right! The Hazells are completing their family with a tiebreaker of cuteness. Could it be a baby girl or a baby boy?
Till next time.
